At X-IT Outdoors, we carry the largest wholesale golf cart inventory in the region, and we’ve helped countless organizations to purchase entire golf cart fleets. But just because we know a lot about golf carts doesn’t mean everyone else does. In fact, many of our customers know only one fact — that they need golf carts. If you don’t know much about golf carts, it can be difficult knowing which one to buy, especially when you’re presented with a selection such as the one we have at X-IT Outdoors — full of many different options.

But don’t worry, we’re here to help. There are a few things you should consider when buying a golf cart, much less a whole fleet of them. Ask yourself the following questions when you’re shopping for a golf cart:

WHAT’S THE MAKE AND MODEL?

If you’re anything like most other people, you probably don’t have a shortlist of golf cart makes, models, and serial numbers that you’ve memorized. That’s okay; if you knew everything in the world about golf carts, we probably would have asked for you to work with us by now. When you’re shopping for golf carts, you don’t need to know every little thing about every golf cart model, but on the other hand, you also don’t want to go in blind. The best compromise, then, is to know where to start if you want to quickly learn some valuable information about the carts you’re looking at.

In that regard, you’ll benefit a lot from paying attention to the make, model, and serial number of the golf cart in question. These things can all provide valuable information about the vehicle with just a little more research. The serial number can reveal how old the golf cart is, and there will be useful information about the make and model, such as parts availability and overall reliability.

As a general rule of thumb, golf carts aren’t terribly complex machines, which means that they tend to age pretty well. But if you want to play things safe by buying a newer model, that’s a totally valid approach. But without doing basic research about the golf carts you’re looking at, you might not get the information you need. Alternatively, feel free to ask us about the wholesale golf carts in our inventory; we’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.

WHAT WILL THE GOLF CART BE USED FOR?

While most people conjure up a pretty similar image when they’re asked to visualize a golf cart, the reality is that there are many different features you can equip your golf cart with. You not only should know which ones you’re looking for, but you should know how to identify whether or not they’re present on the golf carts you’re looking at. At X-IT Outdoors, our wholesale selection varies wildly, from simple basic models to highly versatile and advanced vehicles.

The first and most obvious question is why you need golf carts in the first place. For example, will your golf carts be driving over rough terrain and hills? You’re going to want a golf cart with sufficient power and wheels to handle that. Are your golf carts intended to transport senior citizens or hotel tenants? It’s probably better to look for carts that have generous seating. We could go on with a dozen more examples, but the point is that golf carts aren’t created equally — each one of them is designed to fulfill a specific need. While there is plenty of overlap, you don’t want to overpay buying a golf cart that’s loaded with features you’ll never use.

DO YOUR GOLF CARTS NEED TO BE LICENSED?

At X-IT Outdoors, we operate out of Jacksonville, but we’ve had clients from other states and municipalities. Depending on where you’re planning on using your golf carts, they may need to be licensed. It’s easy to assume this is only if they’re driving in the streets, but on the contrary, many municipalities demand a license even just for normal use.

We can help point you in the right direction if you need your golf carts to be licensed. But this is something you should be aware of before you make your purchase — you don’t want to purchase an entire fleet and then realize you’re not even qualified to drive them!

WHAT KIND OF GAS IS BEST?

Golf carts are much smaller and simpler than the average car, making them an ideal candidate for electric motors. But that doesn’t mean every golf cart is battery powered. There are plenty of carts that take traditional gasoline or diesel, and these aren’t really better or worse — it depends on your situation. Each setup has its own pros and cons.

Electric golf carts are nice because they can be recharged, meaning you don’t have to endlessly put gas into them. But if you’re buying a fleet, you’ll need to determine whether or not you have the capacity to charge all of them, and you should also keep in mind that electric batteries may need to be replaced after a certain amount of usage. Gas carts have the pros and cons you’ll find in any traditional vehicle — you’ll be regularly paying for gasoline, but it’s also more straightforward and consistently dependable.

If you’re unsure of what fuel type is ideal for your fleet, don’t be afraid to ask us! We can help you determine what kind of golf cart is the most well-suited for your organization.

WHAT ACCESSORIES DO YOU WANT?

The fun thing about golf carts is their potential to be decked out with all manner of accessories. You can load up your golf cart with special racks, seats, mirrors, windshields, and so on. Some of the golf carts in our inventory already have these features built-in. Before you go shopping, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with all the different ways you can customize a golf cart. If you know exactly what you want, it’ll be that much easier to buy a golf cart when you see one that already has the features you want!
